High School Graduation Rates: The Gender Gap

Do you wonder why your college campus has more women than men? One reason is the gender gap in high school graduation.For the U. S. population as a whole, 72 percent of girls and 65 percent of boys in the high school class of 2003 earned a diploma, yielding a 7 percent "gender gap."
The gap is greater among minorities.
Among Hispanics, the graduation rate was 58 percent for girls and 49 percent for boys, a 9 percent gap.
Looking at African Americans, the graduation rate was 59 percent for girls, but only 48 percent for boys, an 11 percent gap.
